Wireless Access

 

The Lake Cities Library is now offering free Public Internet Access for persons with wireless-enabled laptop computers or personal digital assistants (PDAs). This service allows you to quickly and easily connect and access the library online catalog and the Internet.

Please ask the front circulation desk for access instructions.

You will need:

  • A laptop computer or PDA with an 802.11b or 802.11g compatible wireless Ethernet network card.
  • Software to support the wireless network card.
  • A Web browser.

Staff assistance is not available for this process.

Limitations and Disclosures

This wireless connection is not secure. Information sent to and from your laptop can be captured by anyone else with a wireless device and the appropriate software. The Lake Cities Library or staff is not responsible for the security of your computer.

Please note that the Library staff is not permitted to handle your laptop or PDA, card or configuration. The Library cannot accept the liability of handling your equipment. If you need assistance, contact the manufacturer of your laptop, PDA or software.

Library staff is not able to provide technical assistance to you and there is no guarantee that you will be able to make a wireless connection.

The Library is not responsible for any changes you make to your computer's settings.

Printing is not available from the wireless system.

The wireless system is accessible from most of the public areas within the library. Due to the nature of the Wireless signal, there may be some "weak signal" areas in the library.
